Decline Bench Press (Smith Machine)

Also known as: Decline Bench Press (Smith Machine).

A decline chest press with a standard grip using a Smith machine.

How to perform this exercise

  1. Lie on a securely positioned declined bench under Smith rails, head lower than hips and legs secured by bench rollers. Hold the bar overhand slightly wider than shoulders above the lower chest, arms nearly straight and bar unracked.
  2. Lower the bar toward the lower chest along the rails with forearms near vertical, then press back without locking elbows forcefully. Keep head, shoulders and pelvis on pads and use visible safeties.
