Plank (Bodyweight)

With the plank you hold a fixed position on your forearms and feet. Your abdominal and core muscles work to prevent your lower back from sagging.

Also known as: Plank (Bodyweight).

Isometric core hold.

How to perform this exercise

  1. Support yourself on forearms with elbows beneath shoulders and toes on the floor, forming a line from head to heels.
  2. Keep the pelvis aligned with the torso, breathe steadily and avoid sagging or hiking the hips.
  3. Stop timing when alignment can no longer be maintained and lower the knees gently.

What are you paying attention to?

Place your elbows under your shoulders and keep your body in a steady line from head to heels. Keep breathing. End the set as soon as you can no longer hold the chosen position.

Common mistakes

  • Don't make longer time more important than posture: sagging changes the exercise.
  • Don't raise your hips higher and higher or hold your breath to stall for time.

Variants and your logbook

A shorter hold time with control is a useful start. A side plank sets a different accent and belongs as its own variant in your logbook. For this exercise, record the time instead of the number of repetitions.
