Horizontal Back Extension (Bodyweight)

Also known as: Horizontal Back Extension (Bodyweight).

A hip hinge on a horizontal Roman chair.

How to perform this exercise

  1. Secure the lower legs beneath the rear rollers of a horizontal Roman chair and rest the upper thighs/pelvis on the pad with hips free to hinge. Fold the arms across the chest and start with torso and legs aligned horizontally.
  2. Hinge the torso downward at the hips with a controlled neutral back, then extend back only until torso and legs align. Keep the legs fixed and avoid an exaggerated arch at the top.
