Romanian Deadlift (Smith Machine)

Also known as: Romanian Deadlift (Smith Machine).

A hip hinge with slightly bent knees and the guided bar of a Smith machine.

How to perform this exercise

  1. Set the Smith machine safety stops below your chosen range before releasing the bar. Stand with the bar in front of your thighs, feet around hip width and knees softly bent. Grip overhand just outside your legs, release the hooks and hold the bar with your arms extended.
  2. Push hips backward and hinge while the guided bar lowers close to the legs to a comfortable shin height. Keep spine neutral and knee bend nearly unchanged; extend hips to stand and re-engage hooks after the set.
