Alternating Curl (Dumbbell)

Also known as: Alternating Curl (Dumbbell).

Standing dumbbell curl performed one arm at a time, lowering each arm before curling the other.

How to perform this exercise

  1. Stand upright with a dumbbell beside each hip, feet hip-width apart and elbows close to your sides.
  2. Bend one elbow and turn that palm upward as you bring the dumbbell toward the shoulder. Keep the other arm lowered.
  3. Lower under control and rotate back to the starting position, keeping the upper arm and torso still.
  4. Repeat with the other arm and continue alternating. Record repetitions per arm.

Tips

  • Avoid swinging the torso or driving the elbow forward to lift the weight.
